Downtown in December!

We have been excitedly enjoying our Downtown in December in Brookhaven this holiday season! At just a couple weeks in, it’s already proved to be a holiday favorite this year.

If you haven’t admired the 32-foot-tall Christmas tree that has been on display in front of the Military Museum this month, there’s still time to enjoy it as it will be up and lit each evening until January 2. In addition to the tree, Santa Claus’ sleigh and a 1950’s antique truck is also set up nearby for socially distanced photo opportunities.

The log cabin located at South Whitworth Avenue is as festive as can be and decorated inside and out, as well as being open each Thursday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. until Christmas Day, for tours and photo opportunities.

While Covid-19 guidelines have stalled some traditional holiday events and activities, Downtown in December is a great way to enjoy some holiday fun in a safe and socially distanced way. While this holiday season has certainly looked different, there’s one thing for certain – ‘Ole Brook knows how to do Christmas cheer downtown! But don’t just take our word for it, come see for yourself!

New Sight Baptist Church Offers Drive-Thru Live Nativity!

The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Brookhaven, even despite Covid-19! Located on New Sight Road in Brookhaven, New Sight Baptist Church continues the tradition with its annual rendition of a drive-thru live nativity set. Since 2005, their annual live nativity has been a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this year it is one of few traditions and events that can be safely enjoyed in coherence with Covid-19 guidelines.

All the actors are dressed in time-appropriate garb, handcrafted by the ladies of the church with the purpose of bringing the audience as close to the manger side as possible. Joining the actors are live animals donated for use by members of the church and the community.

Don’t you just already feel warm and cozy thinking about sipping on hot chocolate in your vehicle and driving by to learn more about the true reason we celebrate Christmas – Jesus! We are so thankful to be a part of a community who finds reasons to celebrate the joy of Christmas, no matter the circumstance!

Admission to the drive-thru live nativity is FREE! The Nativity will run Dec. 11-13, and Dec. 20, from 6-9 p.m.
